Software with a practical purpose.
The app interface pairs on-screen Braille cells with audio and haptic feedback.
Inside the app

Hoon Maeng Jeong Eum
Learning Braille, one interaction at a time.
I built and released an iOS Braille learning app with on-screen six-dot cells, haptic feedback, VoiceOver and audio guidance.
What testing changed.
At two institutions, testers had difficulty locating elements and moving between controls. Their feedback led me to revise navigation, Braille sizing and spoken instructions.
The revisions have not yet been retested.
Cluber for DIS
School information, closer at hand.
I built school utility apps for iOS and macOS, a watchOS version for lunch menus and schedules, and a Chrome extension for lunch and school events. Grade-based onboarding, favorites and calendar integration organize information around students’ routines.

Cluber brings school menus, schedules and events into student-facing interfaces.

3D-printed FAB LAB components;
the team's work also included Braille signage installed on floors 2–4.
FAB LAB
Coordinated a 13-member team in 2025–26, designed Braille signage and leveling pads, and helped fabricate classroom materials. Installed Braille signs on school floors 2–4 with the Disability Awareness Club president.
Turning what I know into tools for others.

01 / Building on shared lessons
I began coaching in the second semester of 2024–25. In 2025–26, I co-coached 15 students alongside teachers and other student coaches, building on slides and programming explanations created by earlier coaches.
02 / Turning explanations into practice
I added interactive Jupyter exercises, visual guides to Boolean algebra and binary search trees, worksheets and mock tests. When a student avoided programming problems, I worked through the ideas step by step on a whiteboard instead of simply showing an answer key.

03 / A guide for continued practice
I published ACSL Contest Guide: Junior Division 1–4 in July 2026. Students use the guide and Google Classroom materials to prepare independently and continue to send questions.
Research
Questions explored through data.
What shapes a salary prediction?
NBA/WNBA Salary Patterns
Game-Based Cognitive Tasks
Extended the analysis to 570 player records after preprocessing. Compared league-specific salary models and considered differences in revenue and compensation structures. Cross-league predictions do not establish what a player would actually earn in another league.
Developed Pygame tasks examining memory, attention and impulse control, trained a CNN to classify gameplay-performance patterns, and collected data in a seven-week pilot. Manuscript in preparation. Clinical diagnosis and treatment effects were not established.
Using 384 NBA players and 64 variables, I compared salary-prediction models and used SHAP to examine Random Forest predictions. Minutes played, points per game and field goals made were prominent predictors in this model.
Reading the graph: each dot represents a player. Dots to the right raise the model prediction; dots to the left lower it. Pink indicates a higher feature value, blue a lower one.
Figure 8 from my NHSJS paper, published May 2025.
Scope: these models describe salary patterns, rather than establish fair pay.
The work that keeps a community running.

2024–2026 / Key Club
Key Club
Led service projects with Builders Club. In 2025–26 the clubs had 15 and 16 members respectively. Organized kimchi-making events for Sinan Elder Welfare Center: approximately 100 kg in 2024 and kimchi made from approximately 200 heads of cabbage in 2025.

Since May 2022 / School AV
School AV
Operated microphones, soundboards and music cues at school events since May 2022. Introduced four younger students to equipment, backstage responsibilities and event operations.
A school performance supported by the AV team.

Since Nov 2025 / Jets Flyover
Jets Flyover
Reorganized 200+ articles using SNO/WordPress and coded sports scoreboards and schedules in HTML/CSS. Web Director since November 2025; currently training a successor.
Jets Flyover student news website.

Music & Basketball
Beyond the screen
I have played cello with Soli Chamber Youth Orchestra since 2018, taking part in rehearsals, concerts and community performances. At DIS, I also play forward and center for the JV basketball team.
